JOB DESCRIPTION

Stage Manager

Oversees the operational elements of rehearsals, Tech Week, and performances. Oversees operations of stage and backstage crew, as well as coordinates activities to load the production into the theater at the beginning of Tech Week, and to load out at the end of the production run. These duties include:
General:
● Acts as mentor to the Assistant Stage Manager

Prior to Tech Week:
● Attends at least one rehearsal for each of the seven pieces in the anthology prior to Tech Week
● Ensures all tech needs from directors are communicated to designers and Managing Producer
● Schedules and facilitates regular production meetings and paper tech
● Works with Managing Producer and other Producers to acquire rehearsal props and set pieces as needed
● Works with Managing Producer and designers to ensure all technical elements are ready for
load in
● Works with Managing Producer to schedule and facilitate load in
● Coordinates the work of the stage crew

During Technical Rehearsals/Show Run:
● Prompts actors in their lines, entrances, and exits
● Spikes set pieces onstage
● Organizes and facilitates all scene changes
● Communicates to actors and crew their individual duties during scene changes
● Creates and maintains a running list of scene changes and the responsibilities of those involved, to be posted backstage
● Runs the light and sound cues for the performances OR remains backstage to facilitate scene and costume changes (to be decided with ASM)
● Oversees every performance of the production, including ensuring that actors maintain correct blocking and lines
● Coordinates the opening of the theater each night with the House Manager
● Ensures that all sets and props are set before house opens
● Ensures all set pieces and props are properly stored away each night
● Works with House Manager to ensure dressing room and house are cleaned each night
● Ensures the space is properly secured each night (e.g., all lights turned off, all appropriate doors locked)

At Close of Show:
● Works with Managing Producer to facilitate load out
● Ensures that all actors’ personal items are returned to them and that all company items are stored properly
● Oversees load out, ensuring that all of LCTC’s property, as well as properties loaned to LCTC for the production, are removed and that nothing belonging to the theater is removed
● Participates in a post-mortem of the production with LCTC management
